tulsa World, Sunday November 20, 2005
I saw a couple of interesting articles in the local rag, the tulsa World this last Sunday.
The first article is titled "Stretch of I-44 Proves Deadly". This article visits the issue concerning I-44 between Riverside Drive and Yale Ave., how dangerous it is and some plans to widen it. There has been some controversy about this project, I think. The article blames the road for 22 traffic deaths in the last 10 years. Hmmm. Moments later, almost in the same breath the causes of death are listed: "five collisions caused by unsafe speed, three crashes caused by drunk drivers, & eight of the people were pedestrians hit on the road." Now I don't know about you, but I consider walking on an Interstate highway, ESPECIALLY one as busy as this, STUPID. I consider drunk driving, STUPID. I consider driving at unsafe speeds, STUPID. Doesn't sound like the road is at fault at all! I think the tulsa World is so deeply involved in the local good ol' boy network that they have something to gain by this road project. STUPID drivers/people kill themselves and others. And what have I said before? Okies are the worst drivers in the U.S. simply due to their STUPIDITY. Of course the road definitely needs updating and I HATE driving on it, but so does every other road/bridge in this pile of crap state.
The second article is featured in the special section "tulsa World 100 Years". It showcases an article from November 20, 1923, "Walton Impeached on First Ballot". It seems oklahoma's fifth Governor, John Walton "was found guilty of corruption in office, neglect of duty, moral turpitude and general incompetence after serving 10 months of his term." Hah, seems like the only thing that has changed in politics in oklahoma is the fact that these types of elected officials can get away with it now. How? By surrounding themselves with people just like them.
oklahoma Sucks.
